The Beauty of Romanticism

The Nineteenth Century lies at the heart of classical music, and tonight Guy Bordo and the RSO perform some of that century's greatest works. Opening with Beethoven's dramatic Egmont Overture, the orchestra plays Franz Liszt's tone poem, The Black Gondola, in an arrangement by John Adams. Richard Strauss' orchestral suite from his magical opera, Der Rosenkavalier opens a stellar second half that concludes with a return visit by pianist Yakov Kasman to perform one of the crown jewls in the piano repertoire, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
